Standard Size of Bricks
Before knowing the standard size of bricks, let us first understand the difference between Modular and non-modular bricks.
Modular bricks
These bricks are sized in the multiples of 50 mm, including a 2.5 mm mortar joint on the front, side, and back.
The width of modular bricks laid side by side will fit exactly over the length of the underlying bricks.
Modular bricks are the commonly used type of bricks.
Whereas, non-modular bricks are those don't meet in exact increments.
A bricklayer often has to use a half or quarter closer to end a wall or match a joint.
The standard size of modular bricks as per BIS code is length is 190 mm, width is 90 mm and height 90 mm or 40 mm.
With mortar thickness, the size of such a brick becomes 200 mm x 100 mm x 100 mm or 50 mm.
The standard size of non-modular bricks are 230 mm x 110 mm x 70 mm and 230 mm x 110 mm x 30 mm.
To obtain a proper bond between Modular and non-modular bricks the brick size 70 mm x 110 mm x 70/3 mm can be used.
