Classification of Sand
The sand is classified based on the grain size distribution, as
Fine sand
Coarse Sand
And
Gravelly sand.
Fine Sand:
The sand that is passing through a sieve with an opening of 1.5875 mm is called as the fine sand.
Fine sand is mainly used for plastering works.
Coarse Sand:
The sand that is passing through a sieve with an opening of 3.175 mm is called as the coarse sand.
Coarse sand is used in preparing mortar for masonry works.
Gravelly Sand:
The sand that is passing through a sieve with an opening of 7.62 mm is called as the gravelly sand.
Gravelly sand is used for concrete work.
