 Introduction to Building Stones

Stone is a natural solid aggregate which contains one or more minerals. Stones has been used by mankind in different industry.
Most important and remarkable one is construction industry.
Human’s first shelter was caves made of stones.

Ancient buildings such as Taj Mahal, Red fort, Mahabalipuram, etc., are constructed using stones.
These rocks doesn't process any definite shape but can be reshaped as per requirement.
These stones were largely used as it is strong, durable, and decent in appearance.
Let us see usage of stones in building.
Stones are used as principle material for construction of foundation, walls, arches, dams etc.
Stones are used as a roofing material in the form of slates.
Stones are used as a coarse aggregate in cement concrete
Stones are used as ballast in railway tracks.
Stones are used in pavement in the form of thin slab.
Certain stones like limestone’s are used in manufacture of cement.
Stones are used as interior decorations in the form of veneers.
Apart from this, stones are used in many small structural works.
